Vegan Vanilla Bean Milkshake Smoothie

This fruity vanilla smoothie is a combination of a smoothie and a shake.

A refreshing, but creamy drink, this vegan vanilla bean milkshake smoothie is quick to make in a blender with fresh apples or if you don't have a blender you can use apple juice instead.

It's absolutely delicious and I know you'll love it.

A smoothie or a milkshake?

Hmmm, which is it?

It could be either.

A blended fruit base like a smoothie, but there's yoghurt in there too, which makes it taste like a really flavourful milkshake.

I'll let you decide, but do try it!

Vegan Vanilla Bean Smoothie.

Is it a healthy option?

It's definitely a healthy option.

There are vitamins from the fresh fruit and the vegan Greek yoghurt provides protein, calcium and vitamin B2, B12 and D.

It's low in fat and saturated fat and it's dairy-free and gluten-free.

I'd say that's a pretty healthy option.

What you need to make a vegan vanilla shake

Here are the simple ingredients you need to make this vegan vanilla milkshake.

  • Apples
  • Maple syrup
  • Vanilla pod - extract
  • Vegan Greek yoghurt - or plain yoghurt

Vanilla pod, vanilla extract or vanilla paste?

Those are the three main types of vanilla flavourings.

vanilla pod and seeds.

I didn't include vanilla essence as it's artificial and not very good, but I understand if you are watching your budget you might choose it.

However, if you can afford one of the other types of vanilla, do buy them instead, the flavour difference is remarkable and if you are using vanilla extract you only use a little each time, so it lasts a long time.

The best flavour comes from a vanilla pod, which you cut in half lengthways and scrape out the seeds.

It's a whole different level of flavour.

So expensive though.

Extract and paste are a really good substitute for a pod.

They still give a good vanilla flavour.

Cheat version

If you don't have a blender or just have apple juice in the fridge and no apples, you can use the juice instead.

Just add the fruit juice and other ingredients to a few clean jam jars with tight lids or a bigger tub with a tight lid, then shake like mad until the smoothie is well mixed and frothy.

A first-class creamy, apple smoothie.

And, of course, you can just drink from a jam jar too.

Just grab one out of the fridge to drink at breakfast or to pop in your lunch box.

Give it a good shake before drinking though, as it will separate as it lies.

Vanilla smoothie toppings

You can serve this fruity smoothie as it is, but you can add a dusting on top for a bit of extra flavour and it does look a bit fancier.

Here are a few dusting ideas:

  • Freshly grated nutmeg - or ground nutmeg
  • Freshly grated cinnamon - or ground cinnamon
  • Cocoa powder
  • Cacao powder

How long will it keep?

This creamy vanilla smoothie will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Just give it a good shake before serving.

Prep time: 3 MinTotal time: 3 Min

Ingredients

  • 4 green apples
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 8 tablespoons vegan Greek yoghurt
  • 1/2 vanilla pod, scrape the seeds out and add them (or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or paste)

Instructions

  1. Cut the apple into wedges, remove the core, and add to a blender or food processor.

  1. Love smoothies and love Innocent. Have you seen the smoothies for sale with bobble hats on? Too cute for words :-)

My juicer is languishing on a shelf somewhere, so maybe it's time to dust it off and give it a whirl...

Thanks for thinking of me, I will have a look at your site!

  7. I think the hats are for Age Concern. Every year, Innocent appeals for people to knit smoothie-sized hats and it donates some money from each be-hatted bottle to charity :-)

  11. Hi Holler

Do you reckon i could substitute apple juice for an apple as i don't have a blender! How much apple juice do you reckon would be right for this? I've been dying to make this myself for ages... maybe i'll just experiment! Thanks very much!
