No Croutons Required - The Store Cupboard Round

For this month's No Croutons Required I would like us to be frugal. So the challenge this month is to create a soup or salad using store cupboard ingredients. No nipping out to the shops, although you may pop out to the garden, if you are growing vegetables or herbs there. Have a look in your cupboards and fridge and see what you can come up with. Let's get creative this month and remember, the soup or salad must be suitable for vegetarians. You will find the rules here.

Congratulations to Priya over at Priya's Easy N Tasty Recipes who won the September edition of No Croutons Required with her traditional Moroccan Harira Soup. Looks good doesn't it?

  1. that sounds like a challenge indeed - my first thought is that I would just get a can of soup from my storecupboard but will think about this one

  2. Great frugal challenge! I will peruse my cupboards pronto and defy my kids who say there's "nothing" to eat in the house. Hah!

  4. Congrats to the winner last month. This month is a real challenge but wide open since all of our cupboards would contain different things.

  5. For one who grows some of her own vegetable, I am embarrased to admit that I do have a tin of callaloo - a Jamaican spinach that has been sitting in my storecupboard for a long while and it is now nearing it's sell by date. So rather than throwing it out,I will be making sure I make the most of it. Hey I mean even put it forward for this challenge.

  6. I do this quite often for my lunch ... and it's been ages since I submitted something so I'll really try this month :) Definitely a fun challenge - I bet there'll be more soups than salads.

Hey TB, a perfect excuse to clear out those cupboards then :)

Hi Val, Yeah, I am hoping there will be a real variety in the entries this month :)

I think you are right there Rachel, it is definitely soup weather for a lot of us now, so back to the store cupbopards :)
