Clandestine Cake Club Dundee #5

Our fifth meeting of the Clandestine Cake Club in Dundee took place rather swish surroundings. Instead of a pub or restaurant, this month we secretly met in the Hilton Hotel in Dundee. We were treated to the whole corporate package and very nice it was too. You really couldn't have a more luxurious meeting room, although I believe it was one of many.

The theme this month was 'Like a kid in a sweetie shop'. Now you would think, sweetie shop, there must be thousands of variations of sweetie to choose from and you would be right, but we were all women bakers this month, so nearly all of us went for the secret passion in our lives. Yes, you guessed it! Chocolate!

There was my after eight cake, two chocolate orange cakes, one white and one dark, a cola bottle cake (with a bit of help from Dr Pepper),  a chocolate lime cake with lime cream, a chocolate jazzie cake and one covered in traditional sweeties.

Here are a few cake shots to tempt you:

As usual we all had a great chat and we all took too much cake and struggled to eat it. I did warn everybody at the beginning to cut a very, very thin slither of each cake, but I don't think they realised how thin a slice I meant.

I have to congratulate the bakers, as the cakes are always wonderful. Very few are ever satisfied with their final cake and there are a few disasters along the way (such as Becca's oven disaster), but I can assure you, they all tasted sublime.

And a final photo of me and one of my many cake friends, author Zoe Venditozzi, whose new book is now available to order on Amazon. It is called Anywhere's Better Than Here (had to get that plug in really).

Here is the blurb -

Laurie has no idea where her life is going. She lives with her computer game-obsessed boyfriend who she can barely be bothered to speak to and she works in a meaningless job in an office where she avoids her co-workers. When Laurie meets an older, secretive man things take an unexpected turn and Laurie realises she needs a plan, and fast. Anywhere's Better Than Here is a portrait of a young woman's growing self- awareness as she finally decides to grow up and make her way in the world.

So a big thank you to the Hilton, all the bakers and all the eaters for making this another successful cake club meeting.

  5. I will look out for the book! If the Hilton in Dundee is anything like the one we stayed in at Craigendarroch then it is beautiful :)

  6. must admit would never have thought of standing them up on top as you did, stick them the sides or top, nice idea. Love the look of the white choc one best. If there is just too much to eat could you not change the rules so half of you bake one month the other half the next month?
