I dipped into the Innocent Smoothie Recipe Book again. I have made this one 3 times, so far!
Blueberry, Maple Syrup and Oat Smoothie
Ingredients
1/2 an apple or 25ml fresh apple juice
a punnet of blueberries
2 dessertspoons of maple syrup
250ml of bio-yoghurt
a small handful of oats
pecan nuts to serve
Method
- Cut the apple into wedges and put them through the juicer.
- Add the apple juice, blueberries and the maple syrup to the bender and whizz until smooth.
- Add the yoghurt and oats and pulse twice.
- Serve sprinkled with chopped pecan nuts.
One generous serving
Well I think there is enough for two, but maybe that's because I added a banana to the smoothie.
Innocent call this one a thickie, a breakfast thickie and indeed it is! The longer it sits, the thicker it becomes, probably because of the oats swelling up. It will last you right through until lunchtime!
I am buying lots of blueberries just now while they are half price and popping the whole punnets in the freezer. I was hoping to have a nice little stockpile for over the winter, but I just keep using them up. Blueberries are so delicious!
Very Canadian Holler with the maple syrup!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is yummy! I try to buy the best maple syrup I can, but I bet the real stuff is much better!
ReplyDeleteYum! I'd never heard of a "punnet" but I've got a good dictionary. ;)
ReplyDeleteMr B likes the vanilla-maple syrup smoothie from M&S (expensive tastes!) but it's too sickly for me. Your recipe looks like a really fab balance of flavours and I like the idea of something sustaining me until lunchtime without a snack attack!
ReplyDeleteHi David, just the little boxes that fruit come in. They are usually a standard size for each fruit - a punnet.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, I know what Mr B means, it is gorgeous! But definitely for a treat, I think it has double cream in it. This is a lighter, healthier option!
Sounds delicious! Assume you could use frozen blueberries?
ReplyDeleteI have used fresh & frozen bluberries. If you use frozen, it makes your smoothie instantly cold.
ReplyDeleteI love smoothies and this also has a Scottish twist with oats...now I'm thinking haggis!
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteBlueberries and maple syrup is a delicious comination - will try with oats next time).
Oh, it sounds so healthy, and good for you. I love blueberries.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad about posting a cheesecake recipe. I never post healthy recipes. I think maybe I will, in January.
now this looks worth buying a juicer for - never heard of oats in a smoothie before but sounds like a healthy breakfast!
ReplyDeleteHope you're thinking veggie haggis Peter! For my sake!
ReplyDeleteHi Lucy, I think this is a far nicer way to use oats than making porridge! I am not keen on porridge myself!
Don't feel bad Emiline, your mint chocolate cheesecake looked divine!
Hi Johanna, It is my breakfast of choice at the moment!
This sounds really good. Blue berries and maple go well together. When blue berries were in season I was having yogurt with blueberries and maple syrup. I like the oats in this smoothie. The nuts on top sounds good as well.
ReplyDeleteoooh, the blueberry, oat, and maple syrup combination sounds quite lovely for a smoothie!! looks good as well :0)
ReplyDeletewhoa! That looks great Holler! Yum! Blueberries and Maple syrup are so good together!
ReplyDeleteOh, Holler! This would make my morning so much better!
ReplyDeleteCome and collect your award for a top post at Cerys the Well Done Angel Awards! x
ReplyDeleteOooh, yum, this sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin, The nuts on yop did sound good! i didn't have any, so I left it out, but I will definitely give it a go. It will give an extra bite!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veggiegirl, it is a heavenly combination!
Thanks Jenn!
Hi Paricia, it is a good start to the day, although I have to make it the night before, I am not organised enough in the morning!
Thank you for the award David, my spicy orange soup is a favourite, although it has metamorphosed into carrot, butternut squash, garlic, onion, tumeric and fresh ginger soup! My absolute favourite! You are very thoughtful!
Thanks Dana!
Oh yummy, yummy, yummy! I am not usually tempted by smoothies in the winter, but this looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristen, I know what you mean, but I thought it would be good protection against colds!
ReplyDeleteLooks good holler. Just what I need once the festivities are over and I'm back on the straight and narrow.
ReplyDeleteI've added oats to my smoothies before. It sure makes a filling snack!
ReplyDeleteOooh that looks fantastic Holler!
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny, don't look at my next post for White Chocolate truffles then, they will knock you back off the straight and narrow!
ReplyDeleteThe oats are definitely a good idea, atxvegn! They make the smoothie thick, but still retain a little bite!
Thanks Julia!
Mmmmm, I wish that was my breakfast this morning!!
