A glorious pink smoothie with a blast of berries, clementines and some cinnamon. Slurp!

Winter Mixed Berry Smoothie

I got into a bit of a bad habit of only making green smoothies. I love them so much.

They are always so delicious and such a beautiful colour, but I sensed my boys were perhaps getting a bit fed up with all the green. So it was time for a change.

Winter naturally leans towards green smoothies as there's not much in the way of berries at this time of year and the thought of parsnip or turnip in a smoothie is too much for me to contemplate.

I'm sorry but NO!!! I have my limits.

Now apples, pears and kale are still around so I'm tempted to whizz them up every day and I mean every day.

I had a talk to myself and made this very berry smoothie.

I dipped into my freezer for some mixed berries (raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries). I still wanted it to be seasonal, so I added some clementines and cinnamon.

Winter Mixed Berry Smoothie made with frozen berries (raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries), teamed with clementimes and winter spices.

I made my smoothie in my Optimum 9400  (it's happy to blend big clumps of frozen fruit or ice cubes) and with Cooper in mind I topped them with some popping candy and served them in glasses with pretty pink paper straws.

I have a huge collection of these straws in different colours, they are so much nicer to drink out of than a plastic straw.

Are you still juicing with me?

Winter Berry Smoothie
A glorious pink smoothie with a blast of berries, clementines and some cinnamon. Slurp!
Ingredients
  • 200g frozen mixed berries (if you don't have a power blender like mine, defrost the berries as you could burn out your blender's motor, believe me, I've been there.)
  • 1 large banana
  • 3 clementines
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp acai powder
  • 2 tsp baobab powder
  • 600ml water (or milk/soy milk)
Instructions
1. Peel the clementines. Try to get as much of the pith off as possible.2. Place all the ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth. No need for ice cubes as the frozen berries will cool the drink.3. Serve and enjoy!

Yield: Makes 1 jug of smoothie

You can add milk or soy milk instead of water for a softer drink. More of a shake.

My son preferred it this way as it was quite a strong flavoured smoothie.

I liked the kick of berries just as they are with the hint of spice and sweetened with a little maple syrup. Yum it was good!

Disclosure: I was given my Optimum 9400 blender over a year ago. It's still my favourite toy. My opinions are my own as ever.
