Green Smoothies

I couldn't live without them now. I feel totally rubbish on the days I'm in a rush and don't manage to make them in the morning.

I would never have believed how tasty they are. I totally prefer them to fruity smoothies, although this one's a fruity little number.

Greens vegetables and herbs you can add to smoothies

  • avocado
  • basil
  • broccoli
  • cucumber
  • hemp protein powder
  • kale
  • lime
  • mint
  • spinach
  • sugar snap peas
  • wheatgrass powder

Do you really want to add broccoli?

I have to say I've not had any luck with broccoli yet.

It seems to leech out the flavour in my smoothies, but some of my Instagram followers have suggested adding Himalayan salt, dates and lemon. Probably not all at once though.

My fruity little number has passion fruit and mango in it as well as greens and it was rather special. One of the best I've made yet. The type that makes your toes curl!

'Fruity Little Number' Green Smoothie
A fruity smoothie that still has the good green stuff in there. Improve your day instantly.
Ingredients
  • 2 large handfuls of kale
  • ¼ cucumber
  • 1 ripe mango
  • 3 passion fruit
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp hemp protein powder
  • 1 shot/8g chia seeds
Instructions
1. Prepare the fruit and add it to your blender with the greens, powder and seeds.
2. Top up with water until your blender jug is ¾ full and add ice cubes, then blend until smooth. Don't add ice cubes if you don't have a powerful blender like mine, you'll only burn out the motor. Add it to the glass instead.
3. Pour and enjoy!

  2. we are not so into smoothies in winter (well it is almost winter here) but I really need to get more into them come summer - love passionfruit in smoothies and I think I need more cucumber in my smoothies - this looks great

    1. I try to have them all year, although I've been too rushed in the mornings most of this week. That has to change.

    1. Now grapes is a good idea for a sweetner. I hardly ever add grapes to my smoothies.
