The Ultimate Sandwich Guide - 50 Mouthwatering Veggie & Vegan Lunches

photo: Food to Glow
A sandwich is so convenient for lunches, especially if you are away from home. Heck I have them at home too.

Mind you a sandwich isn't always about bread. Think wraps, rolls, bagels, pitta bread, buns and even toast. What you've never had a toast sandwich? No, not a toastie, the filling is cooked inside the bread as it toasts. I am talking about toasting some bread and them making a sandwich with it and yes it's good even if the toast is cold. It still gives you that crunch.

A Crisp (Chip) Sandwich? Really?

Talking of crunch in a sandwich. Have you ever had a crisp (chip my American friends) sandwich? Oh my it's the ultimate if you've had a late night and needing a spot of comfort and something not to challenging for the old stomach. Spead some good quality brown bread with cream cheese (dairy or dairy-free, it's up to you), top with your favourite flavour of crisps (chips), go on be generous now. Add the top slice and press down. *crunch*. Bite into it for a taste sensation. No, it's not healthy in the least. but sometimes it's just the thing! I dare you to try one, no I double dare you!

History of the Sandwich

You may know that the sandwich was invented by the fourth Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu (1718 - 1792), but did you know he only invented this tasty lunch dish so he could stay at the gambling tables and not have to leave to eat? Yes he was a prolific gambler and aren't we glad?

He was way ahead of his time when it came to snacks and we bow down to him. He's also said to have invented what we would now know as a Frappe. Just read this account.

"Prepare the chocolatti [to make a drink] ... and Then Putt the vessell that hath the Chocolatti in it, into a Jaraffa [a carafe] of snow stirred together with some salt, & shaike the snow together sometyme & it will putt the Chocolatti into tender Curdled Ice & soe eate it with spoons."

Let's all give that man a round of applause!
